Previous News:

  • Syria- Netherlands Seminar (Nov/22-23/2004)
    Seminar on the future of Integrated Water Management in Syria was held by MOI in cooperation with Netherlands government. the WRIC chief advisor presented project activities in that seminar.

  • One short-term experts was dispatched to Syria (Nov/16/2004)
    One short-term experts, Mr. SANEMATSU, was dispatched to Syria. He will supervise some activities concerning publishing a water resources report in Syria for three months.

  • P4P/ Promotion for the project was held (Nov/8/2004)
    WRIC presented their ability to related organization officers.

  • The project evaluation team was dispatched to Syria (Oct/2-20/2004)
    Before terminate this project, JICA HQ sent the team to evaluate activities and to suggest a work plan and goal during remain period. They made individual interview for C/P and hold a workshop with project cycle management method. Also Syrian and Japanese side had several meeting together and to reach an agreement about plan of operation and goal. This will be reflect on future activities.

  • Training in Japan/ Water Resources Planning  (Oct/10-31/2004)
    5C/P were sent to Japan for acquiring idea of Water Resources Planning.

  • C2C /Counterpart to Counterpart workshop was held (Sep/9/2004)
    C2C was held at GDBAB. Syrian C/P taught Syrian C/P those who got knowledge and  technique through their  duty or training.

  • Training in Japan/Integrated Water Resources Management (Sep/4-19/2004)
    Deputy Minister, Dr. Sleman Rammah and General director of coastal basin, Eng. Hussein Makhlouf went to Japan in order to get some idea about Water Management in Japan. They visited related organizations in Japan and exchanged information.

  • One expert was dispatched to Syria (Aug/18/2004)
    A Hydrological expert, Mr. SUZUKI, was dispatched to Syria. He will conduct and supervise some activities concerning Hydrological Observation and Database till the end of this project.

  • Training in Japan/Hydrological Observation2 (Jul/10-Aug/1/2004)
    Hydrological Observation Training was held in Japan from 10th July to 1st August. 5staff attended.

 

  • Three short-term experts were dispatched to Syria (Jul/16/2004)
    Three short-term experts, Mr. KATO, Mr. KANAYAMA and Mr. UMEDA, were dispatched to Syria. They will conduct and supervise some activities concerning Database for two or three months.

  • Joint Coordinating Committee (Jul/15/2004)
    Joint Coordinating Committee was held at Farduse Headquarters office, Ministry of Irrigation.
    Vice-Minister and other Director of MOI, Director of WRIC, Directors of two basin center attended from Syrian side. Meanwhile, Secretary, Embassy of Japan, JICA Resident Representative, JICA experts and others attended from Japanese side. Director of WRIC chaired this committee. After explanation by JICA Chief advisor and Director of WRIC about WRIC 2nd years activities, activities plan for 3rd year and problems, all of participants discussed its matter. Main subject was achievement of activities and so on. it will reflect on activity to improve toward goals.

 

  • One short-term expert was dispatched  to Syria (Mar/21/2004)
    One short-term expert was dispatched to Syria. He starts some activities during three months.

  • Syrian Journalist Tour visit WRIC (Mar/14/2004)
    Syrian Press Tour sponsored by JICA Syria Office visit WRIC is done from March 14 to 16.Syrian Journalist from Newspaper, TV etc visit WRIC on March 14. Director of WRIC and WRIC staff explained about activities of WRIC.

  • JICA Jordan Office Resident Representative visits WRIC (Feb/24/2004)
    JICA Jordan office Resident Representative and Deputy Representative visit WRIC. We explain project outline and show training rooms.

  •  Syrian-Germany Water Seminar (Feb/17-18/2004)
    Water Seminar sponsored by the Ministry of Irrigation and Germany was hold at Cham Palace Hotel in Damascus. In the Seminar, we discussed Integrated Water Resources Management in Syria. Many Officers who belong to Ministry of Irrigation, State Planning Commission, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Damascus Water Supply and Sewage Water, and  Netherlands attended and presented about their activities. Some Germany experts presented Water Management in Germany. In this seminar, JICA expert and WRIC officers attended and show the activities of WRIC.

  • Two Employees of PCI visit to Syria to prepare tender document and confirm site situation (Feb/7-18/2004)
    They discus with Syrian side about tender document for Grant Aid Assistance and  confirm present situation of observation stations.

  •  JICA Uzbekistan officers and Preliminary study team for Environmental Monitoring project visit WRIC (Feb/9/2004)
    JICA Uzbekistan officers and Preliminary study team for Environmental Monitoring project visit WRIC. We explain project outline and show training rooms.

  •  Business trip to Egypt (Jan/12-15/2004)
    WRIC staff (JICA expert and Syrian C/P) and JICA Syria office staff visited the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, Egypt and observe water resources management. In this trip, we visited the Regional Training Center, Head Office and National Water Research Center and exchange information. We also visited JICA Egypt office and were given information about JICA activities in Egypt and "Water Management Improvement Project in the Nile Delta". We will continue to keep good relationship with Egypt side.

  • Two employees of PCI visit to Syria to make contract regarding consulting services for Grant Aid Assistance (Dec/26/2003-Jan/1/2004)
    They make contract with the Ministry of Irrigation and confirm specification of Meteorological and Hydrological Observation equipment and preparation situation by the Ministry of Irrigation.

  • Infrastructure Development Institution IDI- Japan Preliminary study mission visited  SyriaDec/8- 15/ 2003
    Infrastructure Development Institution IDI- Japan Preliminary study mission visited Syria. Mission studied two items. The first one is conducting of Study in north east of Syria (Euphrates River Basin) and the other one is to carry out Dam inspection in Syria.

  • Ambassador of Japan, Head of SPC and others visited WRIC (Dec/10/2003)
    Ambassador of Japan and Head of State Planning Commission(SPC) exchanged note about Grant Aid Assistance for provision observation equipment at SPC. After the signing ceremony, they visited WRIC and observed WRIC activities with JICA Syria Office Representative, Vice-Minister of Irrigation and others.

  • MOI and MOD signed official agreement to exchange data (Nov/16/2003)
    Mr. Nader Al-BUNNI, Minister of Irrigation and Eng. Emad Eddin Al-Biek, General Director of Meteorology signed official agreement to exchange meteorological observation data.

  • Two General Directors are dispatched to Japan (Oct/25/2003)
    We dispatch two General Directors (Barada-Awaj Basin and Coastal Basin) for two weeks from Oct. 25. They will visit some organization, discuss and observe in Japan.  

  • The Project Consultation Team was dispatched to Syria (Oct/18/2003)
    The Project Consultation Team was dispatched to Syria from Oct. 18. The Team is consisted four members and they are member of Domestic support committee in Japan.  In this survey they discussed some problems and revised Project activities with Syrian side. In the last time, both sides confirmed agreements.

  • Three short-term experts were dispatched to Syria (Oct/3/2003)
    Three short-term experts, Mr. KATO, Mr. SASAHARA and Mr. UMEDA, were dispatched to Syria. They will start some activities during two or three or four months.

  • New short-term expert was dispatched to Syria (Sep/24/2003)
    A new short-term expert, Mr. KIHARA, was dispatched to Syria. He will do some activities till Dec. 7.

  • Eng. Nader Al-BUNNI was appointed Minister of Irrigation (Sep/18,21/2003)
    Mr. Nader Al-BUNNI, new Minister of Irrigation was appointed and visited WRIC on Sep. 21.

  • Presentation the result of training course in Japan
    (Aug/23, 27, Sep/8/2003)

    Three Syrian officers of WRIC were dispatched to Japan for training. After come back to Syria, they presented in three centers about the result of training course in Japan. Syrian C/P can share the result of training.

  • Seminar sponsored by Netherlands and MOI (Jul/31/2003)
    Netherlands and MOI hold the Seminar on July 31 at Lattakia. Chief advisor in WRIC attended. In the Seminar, there are many participants from Netherlands, MOI, University and other related Ministries. These participants were separated to three groups and discuss about water issues in the Coastal Basin. After discussion about future water situation in 2030, chairperson arranged the conclusion.
    As this project has closely relationship with our WRIC project, we need to contact and exchange information each other.

On the other hand, Secretary, Embassy of Japan, JICA Resident Representative, JICA experts and others attend from Japanese side. Vice-Minister chaired this committee. After explanation by JICA Chief advisor and Director of WRIC about WRIC past activities, activities plan and problems, all of participants discussed its matter.
    This Committee is useful for both sides and both sides will discuss again based on the result of Committee.
